When official corporate seals were first introduced in the 17th century they were generally used by royal families, people who held vast political power, and even the world's first banks. Anyone in those days receiving a document or envelope with a company seal new the information was very important and didn't hesitate in replying to or complying with the message. The early company seals weren't made that differently than how we make them today. You make a company seal by dripping hot wax on to letter, document, envelope, parchment, or any piece of paper. Then you press your stamp into the hot wax making a deep impression on the document. During the 17th and 18th centuries kings would use their rings and press their ring into the warm wax leaving an imprint. The imprint would be rather thick and very noticeable.
Today we use specially designed rubber stamps to imprint company seals. Also while many companies still use the warm wax method, most company seals just utilize a simple ink for a flat seal. The flat document pressed with ink is easier to file but won't photocopy as well as a wax impression. As with everything in our technologically advanced world there have been electronic advancements in the company seal market. Electronic devices can now produce a company seal on any piece of paper inserted into its slot. Unfortunately these machines can cost hundreds of dollars. Whereas a simple hand held stamp are available for a fraction of the price. Also many people might miss the nostalgic feeling of actually physically pressing a stamp onto a piece of paper.
Company seals are used to signify a deal made between a company and a second party. Upon both parties signing and stamping the document with a company seal the terms stated on the document must be completed. Both parties must comply with their side of the agreement. The company seal makes the contract official and is now admissible in court if need be.
Utilizing company seals is very important. It can help you make any document you sign or offer someone official. With it you will have legal documentation of the deal they arranged with you. This function is very useful for any small or even large business that is just starting out.
